Fiber LASER Surface Treatment – precision, efficiency, and environmental friendliness [PART 2]

IDEA FROM A PLAYFUL MIND

The idea for the first-ever laser was probably born in the head of someone with a playful desire to light something up with a magnifying glass by successfully collecting and concentrating the Sun’s rays and projecting them onto an object. Apparently, Albert Einstein too had such naughty childish urges, paving the way for the development of the laser with his scientific findings.

SURFACE TREATMENT (MACHINES/TEXTURING/CLEANING)

Laser surface treatment ensures a uniform surface over the entire treatment area and perfect repeatability, something which cannot be claimed for other texturing and cleaning technologies.

Machines

A machine solution with an integrated laser is called a fiber laser machine. With extensive experience in the manufacture of machines with different levels of automation or robotization, our company is now expanding into the field of fiber lasers.

In addition to the previously mentioned benefits of using lasers, let me emphasize once again that this machine can be quickly adapted for a different type of laser treatment and for processing different workpieces, with very little or no manual intervention on the machine itself. Our team makes sure that the operation with a proper fume extraction system is very clean, the results are completely repeatable, and the machine needs virtually no maintenance compared to traditional ones.

In any case, we will ensure your product is Class 1-compliant according to international laser safety standards.

Texturing

A laser texturing process alters a material’s surface properties by modifying its roughness and texture. The laser beam creates micropatterns on the surface through laser ablation, removing layers with micrometer precision and perfect repeatability. Typical patterns include dimples, grooves, and free forms.

Same as abrasive blasting or chemical etching, laser surface texturing can be used to improve properties like adherence, wettability, electrical and thermal conductivity, and friction. For example, you can increase surface adherence before applying common coatings like adhesives, paint, etc. Laser texturing can also be used to prepare surfaces for thermal spray coating and laser cladding as well as to improve the performance of mechanical seals.

Surface treatments like abrasive blasting and chemical etching processes need abrasive media like steel grits or chemicals like acid to texture surfaces. Unlike those treatments, the laser texturing process functions without consumables. This results in low operating costs, low maintenance, and improved health and safety in the workplace.

Operators won’t need to handle chemicals, wear protective equipment, and stop operations to replace consumables. The working environment is therefore much cleaner, process cycles are faster and 100% work-safe.

Cleaning

In industries where partial coating removal is encountered, laser precision saves a huge amount of time over unattractive and time-consuming manual masking, which, moreover, can never be done with ‘laser’ precision.

Similar benefits to texturing occur with laser surface cleaning applications. Using a pulsed laser, laser cleaning can replace traditional methods of removing rust, oxide, paint, and other contaminants from metal surfaces. Emerging applications include weld cleaning, mold cleaning, tool cleaning, and surface preparation. While abrasive blasting media and other cleaning tools may damage the surface, a laser beam removes contaminants with unmatched consistency without introducing impurities in the base material or damaging it.

THE FUTURE RELIES ON ENTHUSIASTIC MINDS

Alongside the manufacture of fiber laser-integrated machines, we are eager to discover various new solutions with great curiosity and children’s enthusiasm, much like when you find yourself with a magnifying glass in your hand – together with you, our valued partners.
